Roman Empire, Coin of Nero, Jupiter saves him from conspiracy Nero/Jupiter (65 AD) (18mm 3g)

Emperor Nero 15 December 37 - 9 June 68 Probably struck after 65 A.D. after the "Pisonian Conspiracy" to show Jupiter's role in saving Nero from the conspiracy. Nero was the 5th and last Roman Emperor of the Julio-Claudian dynasty. He was loved by the common masses in Rome. They loved his entertaining antics. In 64 AD, a fire started in Rome near the Circus where it joined the Palatine and Caelian hills. The fire quickly spread and devastated most of the city. Nero climbed to the top of a tower to get the best view of the devastation and sang of the destruction of Troy while accompanying himself on the lyre. The story that Nero fiddled while Rome burned comes from this but the fiddle had not been invented yet. A series of treason laws in A.D. 62 and the fire in Rome of A.D. 64 sealed Nero's reputation. Nero used the treason laws to kill anyone he considered a threat. The fire opened an opportunity for Nero to build his golden palace. In the year 65, Nero appeared in public as an entertainer. The next year, a conspiracy was hatched to replace him with Calpurnius Piso. The conspiracy uncovered, Seneca, Nero's former teacher, and Lucan were among those forced to commit suicide. Unrest throughout the Roman Empire turned the tables on the emperor: Nero was obliged to commit suicide on...

50 NP Nero Roman Emperor Nero's Bronze Prutah Coin by Festus,Album, Story & Certificate. 20mm Very Good

Roman Emperor Nero's Bronze Prutah Coin by Festus,Album, Story & Certificate. Roman Emperor Nero's Bronze Prutahs which circulated in Judaea were minted in his name by Nero's appointed governor, Porcius Festus (58-62 AD). These two men figure prominently in Christian history. Festus is infamous for giving the Apostle Paul his final hearing before deporting him to Rome where Paul was later executed by Nero's order. Nero is another story. Nero's rule, from 54 to 68 AD, is often associated with tyranny and extravagance. He is best known for: • His love of executions, including those of his mother and stepbrother • "Fiddling while Rome burned" His persecution of Christians • Initiating the brutal First Roman-Jewish War (66-70AD)The Biblical Devil Incarnate- Christian historians often associate Nero with the Antichrist. Most scholars believe that the number 666, mentioned in the Bible, refers to Roman Emperor Nero. In the Book of Revelation (13:17-18), the number 666, describing "the Beast", is said to be a cryptic reference to Nero and his identity as the Antichrist. Nero's name, written in Aramaic numerology, is valued at 666. It is thought that the use of this number as a code for Nero's name allowed for secretly speaking against the emperor without the Roman authorities know...

The Metallurgy of Roman Silver Coinage: From the Reform of Nero to the Reform of Trajan

The Metallurgy of Roman Silver Coinage: From the Reform of Nero to the Reform of Trajan

The fineness of Roman imperial and provincial coinage has been regarded as an indicator of the broader fiscal health of the Roman Empire, with the apparent gradual decline of the silver content being treated as evidence for worsening deficits and the contraction of the supply of natural resources from which the coins were made. This book explores the composition of Roman silver coinage of the first century AD, re-examining traditional interpretations in the light of an entirely new programme of analyses of the coins, which illustrates the inadequacy of many earlier analytical projects. It provides new evidence for the supply of materials and refining and minting technology. It can even pinpoint likely episodes of recycling old coins and, when combined with the study of hoards, hints at possible strategies of stockpiling of metal. The creation of reserves bears directly on the question of the adequacy of revenues and fiscal health.

Roman Empire, Coin of Emperor Nero - AVG.GERM. - Victories in Neronia, (65 AD) (19 mm, 2 g) 25-G

Emperor Nero 15 December 37 - 9 June 68 Refers to Nero's victories in the Neronia, and the reverse may be interpreted to be Nero as Apollo. Unrest throughout the Roman Empire turned the tables on the emperor: Nero was obliged to commit suicide on June 9 A.D. 68 in Rome. The Great Fire of Rome occurred during his reign in 64 AD. Tradition has long held that the fire was started by Nero himself and that he recited poetry or 'fiddled' as the city burned. This is most likely a fabrication.
