igourmet Shropshire Blue (7.5 ounce)

igourmet Shropshire Blue (7.5 ounce)

This cheese has a slightly misleading name as it has nothing to do with the county of Shropshire. In fact, it originated in Scotland in the 1920s before its production was transferred to Leicestershire. Shropshire Blue came about from a man named Dennis Biggins, who actually made his living grading another famously orange cheese, Cheshire. Made in a similar way to Stilton, it is a soft cheese with a sharp, strong flavor that takes between six to eight weeks to mature. Orange in color with blue veining, it enjoys a slightly tangy aroma.A delicious accompaniment to Shropshire Blue worth trying is a simple cup of tea - making it ideal for an afternoon or early evening snack. Made from pasteurized cow's milk.Photo depicts whole 9 lb. form of cheese. We cut and wrap this item by hand.

Cheese Stilton Blue (5 Lb Half Wheel) Tuxford & Tebbut Dairy from England

Cheese Stilton Blue (5 Lb Half Wheel) Tuxford & Tebbut Dairy from England

This authentic DOP cheese is from Leicestershire England, from pasteurized cow milk. It is a creamy colored semi-hard cheese with greenish blue veining. Crusty wrinkly rind surrounds the tangy big flavor of this glorious blue cheese. Long known as "The King of Cheeses", Blue Stilton is one of a handful of British cheeses granted the status of a "protected designation origin" (PDO) by the European Commission. Only cheese produced in the three counties of Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire and made according to a strict code may be called Stilton. Stilton was first made in the early 18th century in the midlands of England in and around the Melton Mowbray area. Stilton takes its name from the village of Stilton (though no Stilton was ever made there) located about 80 miles north of London on the Great North Road. It is here that the coaches traveling from London to Scotland and other northern cities made their first stop for fresh horses and overnight stays. Convenient to Melton Mowbray and the surrounding area, the village became the central market place for the cheese with thousands being sold every week. Thus the blue cheese one would buy in Stilton became known as Stilton cheese. Located in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, their multi-award winning creamery produces c...

English Cheese Board by Gourmet-Food

English Cheese Board by Gourmet-Food

Have you even seen such a colorful cheese board. Not only are the cheeses stunning, when you present it on the right cheese board, like a nice teak cheese board or a slate cheese board, it is also a beautiful and complete presentation. We have selected 4 flavorful, colorful and very British, English cheeses; a total of almost 1.8 lbs; from left to right: Shropshire Blue - Made as a Blue Stilton with added annatto, resulting in a bright orange color. The cheese is firm and creamy, but also slightly crumbly. The flavor is sharper than Stilton and quite distinctive. Sage Derby - one of the original additive cheeses; it is unique with the sage being added during the manufacturing process and not at a later stage. Sage gives a subtle flavor addition. Cotswold - a Double Gloucester with chopped onions and chives blended into the cheese. Windsor Red - a pale cream cheddar cheese marbled with a mix of port and brandy. (Cheese board not included) Please note that we will substitute any item that is temporarily out of stock with a similar item of equal or greater value.
